Sunset Heights Art Studio Classes
Sharon has been teaching in the Houston area since 1988. She currently teaches at Episcopal High School. For the past 20 years she has been and instructor of Art Fundamentals, Art History, beginning and advanced Drawing and Painting, and Portfolio Development. as well as erved as Visual Arts Chair and Coordinator of Studio Arts, Other art instructing venues in Houston include: the Museum of Fine Arts Glassell Studio School, Houston Community College, and the High School of Performing and Visual Arts. She received her BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute, and MFA from the University of Houston. She is an active member of the Texas Art Education Association and the National Art Education Association. Her students are consistently recognized at both regional and national competitions throughout the country.
Saturday drawing and painting classes are available to students ages 14 yrs to adult; however accommodations may be made for gifted.
Summer week long art session are available for youner students. Classes meet Monday through Friday mornings and afternoons.
Life Drawing Classes are open to students 18 years and older. Class meets Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. - $25.00 per class.
Private lessons and Portfolio Development tutoring is also available at $40.00 per hour.

Painting Class Gallery






































This class is based on direct observation. Students will be guided through step-by-step methods of using compositional devices, finding proportion, rending form, color mixing, and the effects of light and shadow. Painting will process will be geared toward acrylic and oil painting techniques, but not limited to these mediums. Students will learn to create luminous paintings through a layering of acrylic under-painting followed by an oil glazing method. Exploration of concept and form will be stressed in this beginner to intermediate level course.

Life Drawing Gallery








This course is based in draiwing the human figure. Through observational methods taught, students will learn to draw the figure in proportion using techniques of sighting, gester, contour line, chairoscuro, and foreshortening. This course will introduce students to a hands on, personalized approach to life drawing.

Drawing Class Gallery




























This course focuses on building fundamental drawing skills. Students will learn basic techniques such as shading, controlling tones, composition, proportion, perspective, through a variety of drawing techniques. Observational drawing makes up a major component of the class, as students will learn how to capture the 3-dimensional world on paper. Exploration of concept and form will be stressed in this beginner to intermediate level course.

This summer class is a week long session that meets daily for 2 hours from 9:00-11:00. Supplies are included in tuition fee. Class lessons will focus on a combination of drawing, painting, and mixed media projects. Art lessons change from week to week. Portfolio Development Tutoring






Portfolio Development tutoring offers hands on guidance and advice on preparing a college entry level portfolio. Students will gain knowledge of college recommendations and requirements as they build both the breath and concentration section of their portfolio. Classes are 2-1/2 hours long and are available upon request. Session can be private or group sessions.
